LIVE. LOVE. KETO.
WHAT IS A KETO DIET?
The word keto is short for ketogenic and a ketogenic diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that offers many health benefits.
A keto diet means drastically reducing your carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbohydrates puts your body into a metabolic state known as ketosis.
When your body is in ketosis it becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. Some of the best fats you can have on a KETO diet are; Avocado. Though technically a fruit, avocados offer a rich source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids. Olive Oil, Nut Butter, Cream, Coconut Oil & MCT oil.
A ketogenic diet is great if you’re trying to lose weight, during ketosis your whole body switches its fuel supply to run mostly on fat, burning fat 24 hours a day! When insulin levels become very low, fat burning can increase dramatically and it becomes easier to access your fat stores to burn them off.
When the body produces ketones, it enters the metabolic state called ketosis. The fastest way to get there is to fast but you can not consistently fast forever. However the keto diet also results in ketosis and can be eaten indefinitely and has the benefits of fasting.
The other benefits of a KETO diet means you will be less hungry and you will have a steady supply of energy without the sugar peaks we can get from high carb meals. This helps to keep you alert and focused.
